The Spaniards must have been as interested in alternative health remedies back then as we are today because Spain boasts historic monuments which are considered to be the oldest drugstores in the world and on their shelves are clay pots that contain coral calcium labels. But, legend has it that the health benefits of coral calcium were discovered much earlier. It is said a Chinese emperor send explorers off to find a land of heaven on earth which was thought to exist off the east coast of China. He wanted them to return with the fountain of youth - or elixir of life that was rumored to exist there. But luck or perseverance, the explorers found this magical place and it did have an elixir of life. The problem was that it was such a beautiful place and the elixir (the original coral calcium) so wonderful that none of the explorers wanted to return to the emperor with it! This island is only described in legend as the province of Okinawa, a coral based island in the midst of pristine, clear seas. By the time 1900 rolled around, the coral calcium craze had reached Japan. Knowledge about the advantages of coral calcium spread to China, Russia, Sweden, France, and Britain. But it wasn't until the 1970s that coral calcium became a dietary supplement in the US. Today, it is considered to be vital by some and there have even been studies showing that it can help prevent such major illnesses as cancer and heart disease. The western world is increasingly recognizing the widespread health benefits of coral calcium. Though the original coral calcium use started hundreds of years ago, people's lives all throughout the world have been , and are still being, transformed through the use of this dietary supplement. |
