Your canvas has arrived, you've chosen the perfect place to hang it, now how do you do that? This article is a look at the most common ways to hang a canvas. Mirror Plates: These small brass plates are easy to use and very cheap. In the UK you'll be able to find them for as little as 89p for an 8pk and there available from most hard ware stores and some high street stores. There are 2 ways to fix the mirror plates to the canvas. Mounting the mirror plates to the inside of the frame hides the plate from view keeping the focus on the artwork. The only downside is not been able to securely fix the canvas to the wall. For that you'll need to fix the plates the opposite way round on the outside of the frame. This means you'll be able to secure the canvas to the wall through the mount holes on the plates. A much more secure way of mounting the canvas, but seeing the mirror plate is not to everyones tastes. Wire: Using wire to hang artwork has been around for years. Attach the wire parallel to the horizontal sides just above the center point. now all you need to do is screw a screw into the wall, and slide the wire over the screw. The big problem with this method is canvas rotation. Due to the canvas being fixed only on 1 point, the canvas is likely to rotate round that point and you'll be constantly adjusting the canvas to keep it level. 3M Command Strip: These fantastic little hooks are easily the simplest way to hang a canvas. Simply fix the glue strip to the hook, the hook to the wall, wait an hour and its done! No tools, no mess, no fuss! Perfect, especially if you can't drill into wall because you live in rented accommodation. The only downside to these command strips is the price. A 2pk of the 3kg hooks will cost about £3. |
